From the Poet & Author of Stand and Be Counted, Elissa Gabrielle

Wife. Daughter. Mother. Lover. Sistah. Elissa Gabrielle wears and displays all these hats and then some in her second book of poetry, Peace in the Storm. Alternately taking a reverent tone one moment and a razor-sharp tongue the next, she tells it like it is when it comes to being an African-American woman in the twenty-first century. Peace in the Storm celebrates – and laments – the joys and pains of a black woman in American society. From the tribute offered in “Dearest Papa,” the struggle of many women against drugs in “The Triumph of My Soul” and “Lost on Crack Boulevard,” the profoundness of “The Hyphen,” the sensuality of “Only in My Empire” and many hilarious one-liners in between, Elissa Gabrielle has weaved a glorious tapestry of life, love and loss.

Only in My Empire

These Visions of Grandeur
Promote deep-seeded, uncultivated feelings
That sorrowfully soar throughout my soul …
Awaiting you …
Debating you …
Resisting you, yet missing you.
Is it wrong to love you?
Because damn … I do.

And my sweet Visions of Grandeur
Have me struggling in a world where
Time and Space and Reason and Righteousness
Have No Place
It’s just you and me and we …
For we are a set of free spirits yearning.

And My Love …
I want to lock you up in my Empire for days
To complete this fantasy … this craze
Nah … Hell No … It is truly beyond that.
To fulfill what is so unfulfilled
To both you and me and we.

Perhaps we should alter the rules,
Transform the Earth
To have it rotate on our axis
Because this world as we know it
Is not designed for what we believe …
You needing me and us needing we …
And You and me carouseling thru this galaxy,
Making eternal history,
Exploring the possibilities – infinitely
This mesmerizing infatuation is beyond my understanding.
It Will be next lifetime, sweet friend.

And my Visions of Grandeur …
With my wet-sticky-day-dreamin’
Invisions a time where
You will journey to a light at the end of my fantasy/fallacy
And penetrate so deep that you will caress my soul …
And touch my spirit with the endowment that God has blessed you with.

And I grab a hold of visions and refuse to release them into this world
Where vultures and rhyme and reason will devour them.
Cause it does hurt like hell …
To not possess you the way that my entire being needs to …
How every breath I breathe needs you …

So let me just hold on …
And never let go,
Knowing that if I step back into this harsh realty,
I will realize that I confused it with fantasy.

It was only after I looked into your eyes,
That I saw Paradise …
And every woman wants that.
Suddenly I realized,
That you could be my Saviour in disguise.
Is it wrong for me to love you?
Cause right here, right now, baby,
Damn …
I do.

Journey to Heaven

When a star is born, there will be no lights.
No cameras.
No red carpets.
When a true hero is in our presence there will be a sense of comfort that manifests in his essence.
The anointed never have to say a word for their spirit sings a song.
Delivers a sermon.
Preaches through his good deeds and prevails by his actions.
His grace empowers. His character enlightens.

Everyone wants to go to Heaven and nobody wants to take the journey to get there. No one wants to lose. No one wants to grieve. No one wants to mourn. However, we have to believe that although our souls will never fully recover that you have been blessed. Our anger, our fear, our pain is for We. You are with the Savior now and happier than you would ever be. You are blessed. Our Soldier. Our Hero. Our Brother. Our Son. Our Friend.

God has a Masterplan. When we follow what is written, we will one day understand the true meaning our lives. We will Thank this Magnificent Architect for the blueprint of our destiny. And when we do take that journey and when we have been blessed and on the morning when we are reacquainted with our fallen stars we will be overjoyed and will go on to say "Good Morning, Thank You Lord"

Jesus was delivered to us as a Gift from God. He was indeed a present. God gave this gift to us although we only had Him for a short while. It was not until after his death that we realized what a Gift he truly was.
Our Savior, Our Hero. Our Friend.
